FAQs

Are doula services covered by insurance?

1

At this time, I am not accepting Medi-Cal or Kaiser clients directly. However, many private insurance plans now offer partial or full reimbursement for doula services. I recommend contacting your provider to ask about your specific benefits.

Please don’t let finances hold you back from reaching out. I’m always happy to explore options that feel supportive and manageable for everyone, or connect you with a trusted doula who may be able to accept your insurance.

What happens if you’re unavailable when I go into labor?

2

While it’s extremely rare, there is always a small chance that I may be unavailable due to another birth or personal emergency. So far, I’ve never had two births overlap—but I believe in being prepared. I work with a trusted team of experienced, heart-centered backup doulas who are on call and ready to step in if needed. If a backup doula supports your birth, I’ll still stay connected and follow up with postpartum care, just as we planned.

How is a doula different from a midwife or OBGYN?

3

A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the early postpartum period, but doesn’t perform any medical tasks. While your OB/GYN or midwife handles the clinical aspects—monitoring the baby, checking your cervix, and delivering your baby—I focus on helping you stay informed, comfortable, and empowered. I'm trained to assist with comfort measures, support labor progression, and recognize when something might be amiss, offering you peace of mind. My role is to enhance your birth experience by complementing your medical care with continuous, non-medical support for both you and your partner.

The earlier, the better! Many families choose to hire a doula in the first or second trimester to get the most out of prenatal support, childbirth education, and time to build a strong connection. That said, it's never too late—whether you're 36 weeks along or already in early labor, if I’m available, I’d be honored to support you. The sooner we start working together, the more I can help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered for your birth.
